These two guys were racing back to their boat dealership after the Chicago Boat and RV Show on Sunday. Speed limit in this section was roughly 45 and they both were going about 60-70. The roads were unplowed with a few inches of packed snow so I was surprised at the size of their lower regions.
Earlier, I caught this beautiful unicorn

Years ago a guy with a huge boat flew past me on the way in from Rockford on an icy day. The whole rig was in the ditch about a mile up the road. I rolled down the window, beeped and waved.

Miss Mercedes, I’ve been meaning to ask you a couple of questions about your Smart fleet but I can only remember one right now: how well do the cars run on mid-grade fuel since premium is recommended?

You can ask me anything! :)
Normally it seems to lose just a tad of power and mpg on lower grades. In the winter it’s a bit of a mess if you use anything lower Premium as the engine misfires much more.

Used to work at an RV dealer, where the sales guys liked to “race” motorhomes back from the shows. Even in the winter.

You probably get asked this all the time but, when are you going to ‘Busa swap one of them?
![]() 01/16/2018 at 12:11 |

Never! :P The ‘busa swap is like the worst modification you could ever do. The engine and drive systems aren’t fond of the extra weight (so it would not be able to be a DD) and the torque really only makes it good for drifting.
A better way to do it would be to drop in an Ecotec engine or an engine from say, a Toyota Paseo...small car engines with more potential. :)

isn’t the speed limit throughout chicago land ~45 MPH most places? and anormal traffic flow is ~75 -80 in these zones?

This particular zone was US highway 12 in Volo. Traffic tends to stay around the speed limit here as there are a set of stoplights right behind the curve and the police presence is heavy.

Functional trailer lights? Appropriately sized tow vehicles? So far we’re above average. (I know that they’re new... but have you looked closely at new boat trailer wiring? Yikes.)
Wait! I don’t see any rear hold downs. Knocks them down to the middle of the boat towing bell curve.

I think I know exactly where you were when you took the picture of the SS. Tri-State Tollway? Between Lake-Cook and Half Day Rds? And you’re right about Rt 12 in Volo. I just drive 5 under the limit if I go through there anymore. :(
